I like convenience.
I am a consumer.
BUT
I don't understand how living things can be packaged and shipped WHILE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE.
I mean, I understand how dead things can be packaged. Like meat. And I understand how living things can be shipped. Like chickens.
Today I went into ACE Hardware and as I was at the cash register, a bunch of little things were moving right next to my hand. I pulled my hand back and sighed in relief as I realized the bugs were in a bag. But then I realized.....the bugs.....were in......a bag.
Ladybugs.
Live, flitting, crawling Ladybugs.
Packaged.
For 2 dollars.
In a mesh bag with a tag on them.
They had been shipped like that.
Whaaaat.

Apparently Ladybugs are super convenient for eating your “aphids, mealy bugs, scale, leaf hoppers, and other destructive pests.” They even entertain your children! Www.growquest.com even sells Ladybug Birthday Kits. You can order 1500 Ladybugs for only $20 so that your kid and their little friends can take some home!
This makes me sad. I know no one would want to buy dead Ladybugs. And clearly the Ladybugs serve a prettier, more natural way to get rid of Aphids, but STILL. They're alive and in a mesh bag for me to buy.
:(
xoxo
